Dear Last Minute Gift Seekers:

If you’re feeling the holiday blues thinking you missed your chance to meet Charles “Dickens” Rothstein and receive a signed copy of the book taking a small Pygmy tribe in West Africa by storm, “As the Matzo Ball Turns” you still have one last opportunity. “Dickens” Rothstein’s will make his final holiday appearance this Friday, December 21st from 6-8pm at the Moravian Book Shop located at 428 Main Street, Bethlehem, PA 18018. So come on down before I have to return the “Dickens” costume to a couple of historians from Jim Thorpe who were gracious enough to loan me the outfit for this wacky PR stunt and get your signed copy today!!!!! Hope to see you there!!

P.S. A big thank you to all the awesome people who came out to today’s Valley Forge event or just stopped by the table to say hello. It was my second best signing to date and it was extremely gratifying to watch the large stack of books placed before me dwindle down to nothing. I will be posting pictures from the event on the blog in the next week or two so please check back to see your picture if you had one taken. Thanks again!

Dear Football/Matzoball fans:

This upcoming Saturday, October 27th from 11am-3pm I will be signing copies of the perfect tailgate companion “As the Matzo Ball Turns” at the Penn State Student Bookstore, 330 E. College Ave., State College, PA 16801.  Come on out and bring your game face for this very fun event.

And don’t worry you will still have more than enough time to pick up a book, run it to your car and slaw down a few brewha’s before the 6 o’clock kickoff.

I couldn’t be more proud to be a Nittany Lion and I look forward to another “W” in what is turning out to be a miraculous season. Go Penn State!!!!!!

The thing I love most about book signings is that you never know who you are going to run into next. Who would’ve thought that while signing books in the Saucon Valley Barnes and Noble store I would run into none other than Elmo. And being 6’5″ it is very rare when I encounter someone taller than me, let alone someone dressed up as a Sesame Street character. At about 6’8″ this Elmo towered over me and it’s a wonder how he found a costume large enough to fit. It’s a good thing there weren’t many kids in the store because I am sure there would have been many scarred children clinging to their parents for dear life.  And while on the subject of the Saucon Valley Barnes and Noble store, I’d like to give a special shout out to community relations manager Ms. Colleen Gorsky formerly Colleen Ryan. Colleen is not only a top-notch events co-ordinator but a great woman as well. Much success and happiness to you and your husband on your recent marriage Colleen!!!!

At this local book signing, Charlie the Australian Cattle Dog came out to sign a few books and scare the hell out of a few unsuspecting custormers. Charlie is a character in “As the Matzo Ball Turns” and is entertaining offers to play himself in the upcoming movie. If his appearance at this book signing is any indication of how he will present himself on the red carpet you can be sure Hollywood insiders will be swarming to land him on their roster. As long as he doesn’t pee on the carpet that is.

When attending an “As the Matzo Ball Turns” book signing, especially in Pennsylvania, you not only have the chance to get a personalized copy of the book,  but you are also likely to run into a few former Penn State Football  players as well. Here, at the Plymouth Meeting Barnes and Noble, I am joined by two former Nittany Lion teammates Rob Cooke and Maine Prince. I am incredibly proud to be a Nittany Lion and feel amazingly lucky for the outpouring of support I have received from my fellow lettermen. Thank you everyone and Go Penn State!!!!  ~J.R.

Hear ye, Hear ye:

If you live in Northeast Pennsylvania, the mother of all events “A Taste of Hollywood” will be taking place on Thursday, October 18th, 2012 at the Mauch Chunk Opera House. If you have never seen a show in this historic and newly renovated theatre now is the time. The evening will kick off at 6:30pm with a one hour reception and book signing of “As the Matzo Ball Turns” followed by a screening of the independent comedy “Living With Uncle Ray.”

It should be a fun filled night and anyone who purchases a signed copy of “As the Matzo Ball Turns” will receive a free DVD copy of the movie “Living With Uncle Ray.”  A portion of the proceeds from all book sales will be donated to the Mauch Chunk Opera House.

Again, the event is free to attend but drinks and snacks will be available for purchase. The Opera House is located at 14 West Broadway, Jim Thorpe, PA 18229.

And since this event is taking place in the middle of October during fall foliage, some adventurous spirits have inquired about a haunted tour of the Old Jail. If you are interested in sneaking out after the engagement to partake in this mischief, please leave a comment and I will forward you the information to participate in this ghoulish late night affair.

I look forward to seeing you all there!!!!!

Dear Fellow Matzo Ball Lovers:

With Hanukkah, Christmas, and Kwanzaa or whatever other overly commercialized holiday you now celebrate just around the corner, I bringeth great news. A fellow blogger/writer and friend is offering another awesome giveaway. Her name is Renee and I had a blast with her and her friend Maribeth at the Wyoming Valley Mall Barnes and Noble signing. Her blog is very fun to read and she recently interviewed yours truly and posted the results. All you need to do to lighten the burden on your wallet this holiday season while also giving someone the gift that keeps on giving  i.e. one’s very own signed copy of “As the Matzo Ball Turns,” is to read the short and sweet interview on Renee’s blog and leave a comment. One lucky winner will be selected and if history is any indication of your chances, just let me say the last winner was a subscriber of this blog. Congratulations Aimee Clewell!!!!  So what are you waiting for, click on the following link and comment to win.  Good luck!!!!!!  ~J.R.
